Adding and changing events

  • Tap the plus button on the Events screen. Give the event a name and a date, then tap Save.
  • Tap Change in the Icon row to pick an icon, and tap a color to set it.
  • To change an event, tap its card, then Edit. Or touch and hold the card and choose Edit.
  • To delete one, open it and tap Delete Event at the bottom, or touch and hold its card and choose Delete.

How days are counted

  • Countdown counts whole calendar days, not hours. The night before an event it reads 1 day, and on the day it reads Today.
  • The count changes at midnight in the time zone your device is in.
  • After the date an event moves to Past and counts the days since.

Widgets

  • Home screen: touch and hold an empty area, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for Countdown. There are three: Countdown (small), Up Next (medium) and Upcoming (large).
  • Lock screen: touch and hold the lock screen, tap Customize, and add Countdown above or below the clock.
  • To choose the event a small or lock screen widget shows, touch and hold the widget and tap Edit Widget. Left empty, it follows your next event.
  • A widget that looks out of date catches up when you open Countdown. Widgets update on their own at midnight.

A reminder did not arrive

  • Open Settings in Countdown, the sliders button on the Events screen. Notifications should say Allowed.
  • If it says Off, open the Settings app on your device, find Countdown under Notifications, and allow them.
  • Reminders arrive at the Reminder Time shown there, 9:00 AM to begin with. A reminder whose time has already passed is skipped.
  • A Focus, such as Do Not Disturb or Sleep, can hold reminders back until it ends.
  • Each device schedules its own reminders, so an iPhone and an iPad both remind you. Turn notifications off for Countdown on a device that should stay quiet.

iPhone and iPad

  • Events sync through your own iCloud. Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on both devices. There is no other account.
  • Settings in Countdown shows the state of sync under iCloud, and when it last finished.
  • Sync is usually quick but not instant. If an event has not appeared, open Countdown on both devices and give it a moment.
  • Without iCloud, everything still works on the device you are using.

Your data

  • Deleting an event removes it from all your devices.
  • Deleting the app removes everything it stored on that device.
  • The privacy policy says what is kept and where.
